Geoffrey E Pursglove

Geoff has always been fascinated by water; being by it or on it (not in it - he doesn't like swimming!), so when the opportunity to crew the horse-drawn narrow boat 'Pamela' came up, he jumped at the chance.

This led to Geoff purchasing his first narrow boat, which he fitted out himself and, later, acquiring the Fellows, Morton and Clayton ex-steamer 'Vanguard'.  Going from one extreme to the other, he now runs a 27ft Sea Otter.

Geoff has had a varied working career, including a short spell in paint development, environmental testing for EMI, as a Scientific Officer for the Ministry of Defence, and designing equipment for the water industry.

Using his knowledge of engineering and interest in past industry, Geoff undertook a Masters Degree in Industrial History, which led him to working on the Ashby Canal restoration project for 25 years, with different local authorities.

Now retired, Geoff plans to continue to help with the ongoing restoration of the Ashby Canal, do much more cruising of the waterways network, and take time out in his 1954 Morris Minor.
